• The Patent behind the Product: It’s not a Sticker!

Sometimes we get comments about how great our “stickers” are and we hear how our customers love to change out their “stickers” with the seasons. We are thrilled that our Stopper Toppers bring joy to the bathroom. However, every now and then we like to re-iterate that our Stopper Toppers are not stickers. They are decorative laminates and while that may seem a bit like semantics, for us and our patents, it is not.

Check out these two photos. One is a cheap sticker. The other is our patent-pending, high quality, multi-layered, waterproof, Stopper Toppers. There is a big difference between the two. One is removable and one is not (well…not without A LOT of elbow grease.)

The photo on the left is the bottom of a plastic cup I bought 3 weeks ago at the grocery store. The darn sticker is STILL on there! I have scraped and pulled and wet down the sticker but it will not come off. And the dishwasher seemed to make it stick more.

Our Stopper Toppers™ is on the right. The Bullseye Stopper Toppers has been on my children’s sink (so they know where to spit the toothpaste!) for over 2 months. The finish still looks terrific even after tiny hands and much water.

But, the most impressive thing is how simple it is to remove the Stopper Toppers. I simply used my thumb and forefinger to pull up the edge of the Stopper Toppers and the entire thing peeled right off – all in one piece with no residue, no scrapes, no impact whatsoever! As we wait for approval on our pending patent, we wanted to share our “We are not a sticker” story. For us, it’s about delivering a high-quality, long-standing product. You deserve more than “just a sticker.” You deserve the best Stopper Toppers experience ever.

  • AUCTIONS ABOUND!

It's November! The school year is in full swing. Kids are back at school. They spend their days studying (or daydreaming), playing sports (or just playing around) and planning their Halloween costumes and Christmas lists. Parents, on the other hand, are making sure the homework gets done, chauffeuring the kids around town, cheering them on in their games or competitions, and....planning the School Auction.

School Auctions are an amazing feat to undertake. Months of time and energy and amazing creativity go into planning the event. The time, talent and treasure donated by parents, local vendors and teachers is truly awesome! The culmination is a wonderful party where people get to go shopping, socialize and support their children’s schools.

The theme is always a big decision! Some of my favorites have been Derby Day, New York, New York, and Diamonds & Denim. This year, our party had a Jungle theme so people came decked out in furs, leather, and amazing animal prints. For the photo shoot, we invited Serengeti Steve aka The Reptile Man who brought a 5 year old alligator, a very large snake and other exotic (an elegant way of saying scary & poisonous) creatures. My kids know that I am freaked out about gators so it was a HUGE step for me to actually hold one and have my photo taken.

But, back to auctions...and to Stopper Toppers. Since I've launched Stopper Toppers (www.stoppertoppers.com), we have been invited to be part of many school auctions. Here are some of the creative ways that Stopper Toppers can contribute to a successful event:

    1. Grab Bags - One parent helped us create De Smet Stopper Toppers with the school logo (a Spartan) http://www.desmet.org/ and offered it as part of the Grab Bags that can be purchased at the auction. Fifty lucky families will receive a special Spartan Stopper Toppers for their son's bathroom sink.
    2. School Bookstores and Holiday Boutiques - St. Louis Priory School http://www.stlprioryschool.org/ is selling their custom Stopper Toppers at their holiday boutique and in their bookstore; from which the monies raised go to the school.
    3. Party Favors - …and for the Jungle auction, we placed Animal-patterned Stopper Toppers in lovely decorative tins, on the tables as the party favor for the event. There were lions and tigers and zebras patterns (sorry, no bears) decorating the tables and people took home a great gift to adorn their bathroom sinks.

If you have a favorite school or charity that has an upcoming auction or fundraiser, why not consider making Stopper Toppers a special gift, decoration or give away. With your permission to reproduce your logo, and a vector quality file, we can customize a unique and fabulous item just for you! • How they Work

I am learning so much with this new venture. One of my biggest findings came last week when I signed up to work a Holiday Boutique. On my 8 foot table, I had 2 faux sinks, framed photos of decorated sinks, and more than 10 sink stoppers decorated with various Holiday, Logo, Animal Skin, and Sports designed Stopper Toppers™.

Yet, as over 1,000 people walked by that day, very few “got it.” I saw many smiling and friendly faces but people had no clue what they were viewing. I quickly realized that just because I live, breathe, eat, sleep, drink and talk non-stop (as my husband would confirm) about Stopper Toppers; not everyone else does.

This is a blessing and a curse. Stopper Toppers are totally new and they aren’t on anyone’s radar. Most people couldn’t tell you what color, shape, or size their sink stoppers are. For me, that is fantastic! I love that we have created and launched a product that is totally unique and has such amazing potential.

The challenge I underestimated is that, as stated above, they are not on anyone’s radar so we need to do some serious educating about Stopper Toppers. Luckily, this is Bathroom Décor 101 because we think we can explain this great bathroom product in a few short minutes.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. In this case, I would say it’s worth 500 words. At the boutique, hanging behind me was a huge banner with photos of sinks decorated with Stopper Toppers. As soon as I directed people to the banner, the response I got was, “ohhh, how clever."

They saw the poster of decorated sinks and quickly understood what Stopper Toppers look like and where they go (on the sink stopper). But then began the real conversation (the remaining 500 words) in educating people on Stopper Toppers:

    WHAT ARE STOPPER TOPPERS™

Stopper Toppers™ are a decorative laminate. Please don’t call them stickers! They are much more complex than a cheap sticker because they have different layers and a more robust creation process. They are applied, like a sticker, to your existing sink stopper. But, they have features and components that make them more durable and creative than a simple sticker.

HOW DO YOU GET THEM ON?

When people see them in a sink or on a sink stopper, they think they need to buy an entirely new sink stopper. Once applied, they actually look like part of your sink stopper.

But, Stopper Toppers are so much easier to apply. You simply peel them off the packaging, align and center them on your existing sink stopper, and use your thumbs to spread the Stopper Toppers across the sink stopper. We recommend aligning it from the center and then spreading it out to the sides so as to eliminate any creases. If you go to http://stoppertoppers.hostedbywebstore.com/info/How_To_Apply, you can watch our How to Apply video on the website.

    HOW DO YOU REMOVE THEM?

They are easy on and easy off but not re-usable. Stopper Toppers are extremely durable. My happy customer and mother of three commented, “They are fantastic and have lasted through my kid’s abuse!” Once they are down, they will last a long time - months even a year or two. But when you want them off, you just get your fingernail under the Stopper Toppers. Once you get a piece of it lifted, you can simply pull it off in one piece. They don't leave any residue and come off whole but they stretch a little and lose their stickiness so they aren’t really reusable. Simply toss them when you are done. Then, apply a new one and step back and enjoy!

    ARE THEY WATERPROOF?

Absolutely! Pardon the sarcasm here but, OF COURSE! That just wouldn’t make any sense to put something in your sink that wasn’t. We apply a high-quality laminate coating over the designs that will not only withstand water, but we’ve tested it in bleach, nail polish remover, cleaning agents and there was absolutely no impact on the finish or color. These laminates are durable and will maintain their amazing look for months, even years. Of course, we hope you will change them out often. Because, each time you do, you will experience a pleasant jolt of excitement and a smile comes across your face as you admire your new sink! How else can you brighten up and transform the look of your bathroom for only $7!

    CAN I REUSE THEM?

Stopper Toppers are meant to be used for as long as you like and then replaced. They are not re-useable. As you remove them, they may stretch and lose their stickiness so once you pull them off the sink stopper, simply toss them. Then pull out your new Stopper Toppers and quickly cover up that naked sink stopper to create a brand new look for your bathroom!

    HOW LONG DO THEY LAST?

Officially, the finish on the Stopper Toppers will last up to two years. They have a waterproof, laminate finish, so they will stay put and shine for a long time. But, we recommend changing them out often because it is such a thrill to see the end result when you apply a new one. What better way to transform and beautify your bathroom for under $10 then with Stopper Toppers!

I hope this post answers all your questions about Stopper Toppers, but If not, there is a video on our website, http://stoppertoppers.hostedbywebstore.com/info/How_To_Apply and you can always email us at info@stoppertoppers.com.
